Master of Business Education (M.B.E.)
M.B.E. Program Guide
Students completing the Master of Business Education degree are
prepared to
Teach business subjects at the junior
high and secondary school levels, in technology centers and community
colleges, or
Train individuals in a corporate environment.
A flexible curriculum allows students to customize their programs
to fit individual objectives. As many as 27 elective hours may
be chosen in consultation with an advisor; thus, tailoring a program
to fit goals is easy.
Degree Requirements
Complete 33 semester hours with no more than 9 dually listed
as undergraduate/graduate hours.
Required Courses
BCEN 5710, History and Foundations of Business
Education and Marketing Education
BCEN 6620, Research in Business and Marketing
Education
Guided Electives* (27 hours)
*Electives are chosen in consultation with an advisor and may
be used to satisfy business licensure requirements for students
seeking teaching certification.
Students may choose to extend their research activity by enrolling
in BCEN 6780, Problems in Business Education/Marketing Education,
to work independently with a graduate advisor.
Training and Development Emphasis
The training and development emphasis is a non-teaching program.
Students seeking this emphasis develop competencies to become
corporate trainers.
Requirements specific to this emphasis include
BCEN 5410, Managerial Media Presentations
BCEN 5450, Training Strategies for Business Systems
and Technology
BCEN 6620, Research in Business and Marketing
Education
Guided Electives* (24 hours)
Students completing the training and development emphasis may
choose the research activity by enrolling in BCEN 6780, Problems
in Business and Marketing Education, to work independently with
a graduate advisor.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited
institution of higher education and have completed 24 semester
hours of undergraduate business courses. Individuals holding degrees
in areas other than business many enroll in the M.B.E. program
after completing the specified 24 semester hours of undergraduate
business courses.
Additional requirements include
- A satisfactory score on the Miller Analogies
Test (MAT) or the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE);
- Three letters of recommendation;
- Official college transcripts.
