The Triathlon club had its first official event as and MTSU Sport Club May 17 by participating in the Memphis in May Triathlon. Two of its brave club member faced yet another day with some not so great weather conditions. With temperatures in the low 50´s to start the race and wind gusts of over 20 mph, Tiago Barreira and Gregory Garcia (a non-student member) faced the challenges and had some good performances. Tiago competed in the Collegiate division and Gregory competed in the age group division. Both athletes also competed in the event last year and improved their previous performance. Tiago started the race with a solid swim, coming out of the water in 2nd place, during the bike leg he was passed by three competitors, and during the run another competitor passed him. Tiago finished with a solid time of 2:09:48, good for 5th out of 34 on the collegiate division (2nd on the South East Collegiate Triathlon Conference) and 77th overall out of 1700 participants. Gregory was back racing after a short week of rest from the Gulf Coast triathlon. He also had a good performance finishing with a time of 2:10:22, good for 83rd overall out of 1700.
