The undergraduate research initiative began with the appointmentof two task forces.
The RESEARCH task force was to develop and oversee the process whereby proposals are prepared by the students in consultation with a faculty member which is then subjected to a formal review process.
The PEDAGOGY task force was given responsibility for considering ways to enrich the undergraduate curriculum and teaching that lead to more student-centered learning that engages students in the process. They were to seek ways to help interested faculty incorporate inquiry-based learning in their teaching. In effect this task force will provide leadership integrated throughout the culture of the university so that this style of learning and teaching is facilitated, understood and rewarded.
