MTSU's Undergraduate Research Center, hereinafter referred to as MURC, will foster the implementation of active and engaging modes of learning in the curriculum and facilitate the creation of an environment where students desiring to excel can reach their full potential through research opportunities with inherent pedagogical value.
The MURC will promote and champion change that institutionalizes a culture of inquiry and scholarship for all students and will coordinate the integration of research-based learning in undergraduate education, from the introductory experiences to the senior capstone experiences. Through the MURC MTSU will play a vanguard role in broadening the concept as well as the practice of experiential learning to include students all along the learning continuum, reaching out, as the model matures on campus, to encompass students in partnering community colleges and high schools.
The MURC will become a clearinghouse for information regarding all such programs aimed at involving students in experiential learning and as the focal point for publicity. The Center will also provide for reporting of activities sponsored by the Center and will serve as a catalyst for the development of proposals aimed at securing funding for innovative undergraduate learning.
