If MTSU announces that it is closed due to weather conditions
-- or for any other reason -- I will not have class.
If MTSU is closed, the lecture schedule will be adjusted
accordingly -- as I deem necessary.
A) If an exam is scheduled for the day that MTSU is closed,
I will automatically reschedule the exam for the next class when I anticipate
the majority of students will attend -- generally the following class period.
For example, if an exam is scheduled for a Tuesday, but MTSU
is closed, the exam will be given on Thursday -- barring another school
closing.
B) If an exam is scheduled for the first class period after
MTSU is closed, the exam will be postponed one class day; and I will cover
the missed material for the exam on our first day back.
For example, if school was closed on Mon., and the exam is
scheduled for Wed., then the exam will be on Friday.
If MTSU remains open during significant snowfalls -- or any
other weather event -- I will have class.
If foul-weather -- but no school closure -- occurs the class
before an exam, that will not affect the exam date.
If an exam is scheduled on a day of very inclement weather
(e.g. several inches of snow), but the university does not close, I will
postpone the exam -- but only if a majority of students do not attend.
A) On that foul-weather day -- if I am forced to postpone
the exam due to low attendance -- I will instead cover new material for
the next exam (e.g. if Exam 1 is postponed, I will cover the first lecture
for Exam 2).
B) I will also automatically reschedule the exam for
the next class when I anticipate the majority of students will attend --
generally the following class period.
You should come to the class following the scheduled exam
prepared to take the exam.
If you are absent for an exam, there will be no makeup exam
offered.
Preparation of exams is an extremely time-consuming activity,
and I have no intention of duplicating that effort for a few individuals.
Foul-weather absenteeism is one of the reasons I drop one of the three
regular exams in this course.
If foul weather significantly interferes with two of the
scheduled exams, and creates serious hardship for students, then and only
then might I consider temporarily deviating from parts of this policy.
As soon as they are established, any weather-induced changes
to the class schedule will be posted to the "class
news" page on this website.
