Earth Science (GEOL 1030)

Lecture Material

Independent study & Lecture guide (at bottom of this page)

-  Independent Study Materials -

This is material that you must review yourself, i.e. I will not cover it in class, but it is covered on one or more exams; however, I have annotated it for your benefit. The study questions are representative of the types of questions that I may ask over this material on the exam.
Exam 1: Earth Science: A Primer Study Questions
Rocks & the Rock Cycle Study Questions
Exam 2: Erosion and Landscapes* Study Questions
Exam 3: Mass wasting (aka mass movement) Study Questions
*I strongly suggest you study this only after you look up and read
about "isostasy" in your textbook or after we cover mountain building in lecture.

- Available lecture guide material -

If you haven't yet purchased a lecture guide (available only on campus -- at Phillips Bookstore), these links will take you to the on-line pages to print out for note-taking in class.  This is necessary because: (a) the print shop/bookstore is not always able to process my book order for the lecture guide rapidly enough to respond to changes in scheduling, (b) the bookstore hasn't restocked their shelves, (c) I submitted my order late, or for a variety of other reasons.
In addition to the study questions for the independent study materials above, I've prepared some sample review questions for Exam 1 lecture topics, which I occasionally go over during lecture. You may want to use them for pre-exam practice as well. Please note however -- these are ONLY available for Exam 1 topics.
