Diversity Initiatives
Diversity Plan
The MTSU Diversity Plan is designed to enable MTSU to meet its university goals and strategic directions as it enables TBR to meet its system goals and objectives. The MTSU strategic directions that are specifically applicable to the diversity plan are identified in the plan.
When the President and Provost of MTSU authorized the establishment of an Office of Institutional Diversity in 2006, they also created The MTSU Advisory Board for Institutional Diversity as the official university diversity committee. A small version of this group has been meeting in one form or another over the past several years. This enlarged body now has members who represent university faculty, students, administrative entities, alumni and community service and business organizations. This new board has established for itself the sub-committees and tasks so as to remain relevant and oversee the implementation and progress of the plan.
The MTSU diversity board has identified through committees, unit discussions, and faculty and student reports areas that need to be addressed and data needed to determine the status of diversity as a core value on the MTSU campus. This document represents the findings of this group and has been developed in an attempt to move both the university and the TBR system to the diversity goals to which they aspire.
Multicultural Caucus
This committee is to promote a sense of kinship and a better understanding among ethnic-minority faculty and staff members at MTSU as well as to address issues and concerns related to ethnic-minority students, faculty, faculty, and staff members. The committee also ensures that important university information and communication is being channeled to the campus community.
