The Alabama Historical Commission (SHPO) provides grants to support heritage education activities across the state. Information regarding these grants is published in their newsletter or may be obtained from their office. The AHC co-sponsors a biennial teachers' workshop and has funded workshops on multiple heritage education topics as well as audio-visuals and traveling trunks.

The
Birmingham Historical Society, a private, non-profit agency which receives both private donations and government funds, considers education its mission. Tours of downtown architecture, an annual Preservation Week Parade, in-service workshops and materials on a variety of topics including cemetery studies, family history, objects, and historic sites are some of the services of the BHS. The Landmarks Foundation of Montgomery has a living history museum called Old Alabama Town, which demonstrates how people lived and worked in Montgomery in the 19th and early 20th centuries. As well as on-site activities for school groups and summer camps, traveling trunks and a costumed role-player are available for school programs.
