Here you can see a very imaginative journal entry #2 - describing an
unexpected visit to a very different world. Amy showed creativity and
great promise with this assignment.

They were able to view someone else's writing to work with the standard editing marks necessary for a successful college student. open the "proofreading exercise" pdf file here Part of lesson #4 was to write a business styled letter from Professor McGonagall to the Headmaster regarding Harry Potter's Quidditch appointment. As you can see from the following examples, the students did a good job with this assignment. The first letter was a fair attempt, the second did very well following the formatting of a business letter and was well written. The third, however, was not only well written and in proper form, but the student went one step further by printing it in a unique font and including an actual signature at the bottom. open the "permission letters" pdf file here Here I've included two different students' final thoughts on the book and their personal impressions on it. open the "My Thoughts on Harry Potter" pdf file here open the "Last Impression" pdf file here Of course, the primary goal of this lesson plan was to drive the students to think on a higher level and improve their writing skills so they could successfully go through Freshman composition. These three drafts of their final essay show one student's improvement over time. |
