ART 3140 — Fall Semester 2011
The dates specified below are demonstrations, deadlines and
critiques. All other dates are work days, when you will be working
on your own plates and prints in the studio. Attendance is required
for all classes. This handout is to give you a sense of how
course content will be presented over the course of the semester.
It is likely that changes will be made to these dates, and you
are responsible for making note of any changes as they are announced.
August 30 – Intro to Course.
September 1 - Demonstrations: Drypoint, Inking and Printing an
intaglio plate
September 8 – Demonstration: Line Etching. Drypoint due (1 print on good paper)
September 9 – FIELD TRIP to the Frist & Nashville Galleries. Meet inside Frist at 1 PM
September 20 – Demonstration: Relief Roll
September 22– Demonstration: Softground. Demonstration: Relief roll and printing
with multiple plates. Hardground due (1 print on good paper)
October 4 – Critique: Softround prints. Editions of line etchings due. Demonstration: Aquatint.
October 20 – Critque: Aquatint.
October 25 – Demonstration: Imagon Process. Edition of softgrounds due.
October 29 – Critique, Imagon Process.
November 3 – Demonstration: Multiple Plate registration
November 17 – Demonstration: Matting & Mounting
December 7 – Final Critique.
Thursday December 8 (Study Day) – All portfolios due
for grading. Include 2 matted prints (or 1 matted, 1 mounted)
as per instruction given during demonstration. Portfolios must
include one print of all graded editions as well as complete
collated editions of ungraded prints
Tuesday December 13, 3:30 – 5:30 PM. Final exam (Clean
up). Attendance required or you get a grade of "I" (Incomplete)
