CALENDAR Spring 2012

Class meets 8 - 11 AM TR

Demonstrations and critiques are listed below. Other days are work days, when you get on with your projects, and I am there to assist you.

January 12 – Introduction to course. Distribution of handouts and explanation of policy on attendance and grading. Explanation of materials required for the course. We will look at examples of silkscreen prints done by other students as well as by professional artists.

January 17 – Demonstration: creating stencils for photo-silkscreen, making the screen light-sensitive & "burning in" the stencil. First assignment given

January 19 – Demonstration: Setting up to print, mixing inks, printing and registration, cleaning the screen, reclaiming the screen.
Working in pairs, burn in screens and prepare paper and other surfaces for printing.

January 24 & 26 – PRINT FEST

January 31 – The class will assess the results of our work. We will look at issues of transparent and opaque inks, and how they work together. History of Printmaking Lecture.
Demonstration: signing and collating the edition. Assignment 2 given

February 16 – Critique

March 1 – Critique:

March 6 & 8 – SPRING BREAK – no class

March 13 – Demonstration: Crayon Resist Method (Important demo!)

March 14-18 – Southern Graphics International, New Orleans, LA

March 15 & 20 – Quick, small crayon resist done in class in preparation for a larger one

March 27 – Critique

March 29 – Demonstration: Matting and mounting works of art on paper

APRIL 24 – Final Critique. Two prints due.

APRIL 26 (STUDY DAY) BY 4 PM – All portfolios due for final grading. Include 2 matted prints (or 1 matted, 1 mounted) as per instruction given during demonstration. Portfolios must include one print of all graded editions as well as complete collated editions of all ungraded prints.

TUESDAY MAY 1, 8 – 10 AM. This is when we clean up the studio so that it is ready for the next class of students. Attendance is mandatory. This is during Finals and is one of the times when a final for this class would meet. You will also get your graded portfolios back then.
