Supplies List

You will need to purchase the following items you do not already have from the Phillips Bookstore, Moxie, Plaza, or other supplier:

SCREEN:

If you need screen fabric to stretch over one of the school's frames, buy polyester screen fabric monofilament 220 mesh (acceptable range 200 to 260)from the bookstore. Do not buy nylon or silk fabric. If you want to buy your own screen, they are available at Plaza Graphics on Middleton Street in Nashville for around $25.

INKS:

Hunt-Speedball ACRYLIC screenprinting inks: Process Blue, Process Magenta, Process Yellow, White, Black and Extender Base. Buy the quart containers rather than the smaller ones. Acrylic paints can be used to tint any of the above.

Art Supplies you may already have and will need for this class:

  • sponge
  • paper towels
  • large pad of newsprint
  • empty plastic gallon container
  • #1 X-Acto Knife and 1 pack spare blades
  • 1 bottle Simple Green automotive cleaner
  • 2 or 3 ¼” axle cap nuts (available at autoparts or hardware store)
  • Hunt-Speedball Screen Filler
  • wet media acetate: 1 Iarge sheet FLAT (Holden Hardware on the Square has great stuff that is used to make cheap storm windows, and you buy it by the yard
  • paper for printing: I prefer Stonehenge Cover and Lenox (Bookstore)
  • watercolor markers: especially cyan, magenta, yellow, black
  • scissors
  • Scotch Magic Transparent tape (green plaid)
  • Scotch reguIar glossy tape (red plaid)
  • masking tape: 3/4" and 1 1/2" rolls
  • earplugs (for pressure washer)
  • Crayola or other wax crayons
  • brushes (assortment: old ones will do)
  • pen and nibs or technical pen and points,pencils etc.
  • paper cups, plastic cups, plastic containers with lids (yogurt, margarine, cottage cheese)
  • tongue depressors, popsicle sticks, and other flat stirring implements
  • sketchbook
  • apron
  • binder for notes and handouts
  • a portfolio (home-made ones are fine if sturdy and have clips)
  • mat board (end of semester)
  • foam-core board (end of semester)
