Dr.
McCarthy has over 20 years of experience as an organizational/management consultant and has worked with a wide range of organizations in both the public and private sector. He has worked for the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Development (Morgantown, WV) and with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's Office of Systems Innovation and their Personnel Research and Development Center (Washington, D.C.).
His
areas of expertise include organizational
performance diagnosis and development, leadership and
managerial effectiveness, strategic planning, group facilitation,
strategic planning, team-building, conflict resolution, organizational change
and culture issues, motivation, work-family balance, and legal issues. Past clients
include Proctor and Gamble, Union Carbide, Corning,
State Farm, Pearl Drum Corporation, Tennessee Protection and Advocacy
Incorporated, United Way, the U.S. Department of Defense, the National
Institute of Standards and Technology, Three Mile Island
Nuclear Power Plant, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Dr. McCarthy is also an Associate Professor for the Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology Program at Middle Tennessee State University. He received his PH.D. in I/O Psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA in 1996, and his J.D. from the Nashville School of Law in 2008. He previously received an M.A. in experimental and applied behavior analysis from West Virginia University. His work has been published in leading academic and practitioner-oriented journals and has been presented at over 20 national and international conferences.
Additionally, Dr. McCarthy has served as an elected representative on the Murfreesboro City School Board and has chaired the school system's Community Advisory Council.
