Heather BrownHeather Brown, Ph.D., E.I.T

Concrete Industry Management

Dr. Heather J. Brown joined the Concrete Industry Management Program (CIM) in August 2001 and is currently Director and Associate Professor. Dr. Brown’s technical experience includes five years of material testing and research for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. She also consulted on construction materials projects for several associations, companies, and state institutions. She has authored and co-authored over a dozen papers and been published in Concrete International, ASTM Journal of Testing and Evaluation, Transportation Research Record, International Center for Aggregate Research Journal, American Chemical Society Journal and Tennessee Concrete. She has been a presenter and guest lecturer on topics such as factors affecting concrete strength, pervious pavements, fiber reinforced concrete, whitetopping pavements, high performance concrete, excavatable flowable fill, skid resistant aggregates, and masonry inspection. Dr. Brown has been awarded a recipient of MTSU Faculty Leadership Series, recipient of the National College Teaching Conference, CBAS Outstanding Grantsmanship, CBAS Overall Excellence and MTSU Faculty Who Make a Difference.

Dr. Brown’s background in teaching began at Tennessee Technological University (TTU) with construction materials, surveying, geotechnical engineering, and masonry materials. Her teaching efforts at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) extend to five concrete courses relating to blueprint reading, fundamentals of concrete, concrete construction methods, concrete applications, troubleshooting concrete, and senior concrete lab. She also teaches construction surveying for the department. Research in the concrete materials arena is a major interest for Dr. Brown. Undergraduate research assistants are utilized in various projects for NSF, DOT, ORNL and private companies.

She is very active with student organizations as faculty advisor for American Concrete Institute (ACI), Prestressed/Precast Concrete Institute (PCI) and National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC). She also spends time as coordinator for volunteer concrete projects performed by the students for the community.

Dr. Brown’s academic preparation includes a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Masters of Science in Civil Engineering, and PhD in Civil Engineering all from Tennessee Technological University.

Heather J. Brown resides in Lascassas, TN with her husband J. Chris Brown who is a Mechanical Engineer for Nissan North America and her son, Mason Howerton Brown.

Sally BradfordSally Bradford

Concrete Industry Management

Sally Bradford came to be a part of the Concrete Industry Management program in February 2005, as the Secretary III. With such a broad job title comes many duties and responsibilities. Ms. Bradford handles the majority of the day-to-day duties for the CIM Program. This could be anything from handling accounts, to maintaining program budget, and administering MTSU matters, such as inputting and changing student information. Sally also assists with scheduling and coordinating student trips. Ms. Bradford also has a commitment to manage issues for the CIM Patrons and the Fiber Reinforced Concrete Association (FRCA). Becky LinvilleBecky Linville, M.Ed., Ed.S.
Marketing & Recruitment Coordinator
Concrete Industry Management

Becky Linville joined the CIM staff in July 2006 as the Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator. Becky spent several years as a computer programmer in Tyler, Texas and in St. Louis, Missouri before moving back home to Tennessee in 1998. In 2003 she began graduate work at MTSU where she received a Master’s Degree and an Educational Specialist Degree, both in Higher Education Administration. Before coming to the CIM Program, Becky served as Interim Program Coordinator for the McNair Scholars Program at MTSU. Becky lives in Murfreesboro with her husband, Stan, and her son, Andy.
