Master's in Economics: Industrial Relations Concentration

The industrial relations concentration offers the opportunity to obtain applied skills for careers in employment relations. This concentration examines issues in the workplace such as employment, wages, benefits, and labor-management relations with the broader business and economic environment.

In addition to the requirements listed for the general economics curriculum, candidates choosing the concentration in industrial relations are required to complete Labor and Human Resource Economics (Econ 5420), Industrial Relations Legislation (Econ 5490), and Unions and Collective Bargaining (Econ 5510).  Remaining hours are general electives.

Competency in economic theory is tested by qualifying examinations in macroeconomics and microeconomics at the end of the student's first year of study. In addition, an industrial relations field exam will test a candidate's competency for this field.
