PHOTOGRAPHY

The Photography program integrates technical competence and visual awareness. Experiences promote personal and professional growth toward careers in photography and media photography.

In addition to the core courses (EMC 1020, JOUR 2710 and EMC 4250), all photography students take a two-dimensional design course from the Art department.

This program emphasizes, but is not limited to, photography for the media, including editorial, assignment, corporate, advertising, public relations, documentary photography, digital imaging, and photojournalism. Graduates can also enter the field as studio owners, lab owners and operators, photographers' assistants, and freelance, architectural, and medical photographers.



The curriculum includes:

Use of the B&W and color negative and print materials

Color vision as distince from "seeing" in black and white

Incorporating fine art sensibilities into media photography

Acquiring an idea and acting upon it to realize a useful photgraphic result
Criticizing and editing

MTSU students were honored at the 17th Annual Southeast Regional Emmy Awards. Matthew Pessoni, Scott Pessoni, Jason Bailey, Rachel Pickel won the student production award for their piece called Investigative Explorer.
