Larry Burriss

Dr. Burriss is a professor in the School of Journalism, and has served as department chairman, director of graduate studies and was the first director of the School. He received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism and a master's degree in journalism, both from The Ohio State University. He received a second master's degree, in human relations, from the University of Oklahoma. He earned his Ph.D. in communication from Ohio University.

In addition to a 20-year teaching career, Dr. Burriss also served for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. He saw duty in Bosnia, Somalia, England, Germany, Mali, Guam and throughout Central America.

Dr. Burriss teaches in the areas of media law, media impact and First Amendment theory. He has won numerous awards for innovative use of technology in the classroom, and has spoken to groups around the world on the impact of the Internet on children. He is the author of two books and more than 150 articles in both academic and popular publications.
