Samina Quraeshi

Samina Quraeshi, the Henry R. Luce Professor in Family and Community at the University of Miami, is an award winning artist, designer, and author who has devoted her life to advocacy for the arts, education and the built environment. She brings a global perspective to her work, enhanced by experiences in a wide variety of settings that include New York, London, Kansas City, Denver, Boston, and Pakistan, the country of her upbringing.

Since her appointment in 1998 as the Luce Professor, Ms. Quraeshi's efforts have focused on the complex, interconnected problems that challenge our urban communities. Working in Miami's inner cities, Ms. Quraeshi is guiding an interdisciplinary team of faculty, students and community leaders to integrate research, teaching and service to provide networks that better support family life in impoverished urban environments.

A much sought-after speaker, she has lectured from Alaska to Moscow on the importance of art and design as a strategic resource for change and learning and is the recipient of numerous awards as well as honorary doctoral degrees from Bradford College and the Art Institute of Boston.
