Beverley
H. Johnson is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute
for Family CenteredCare in Bethesda, Maryland. She has had clinical
and administrative experience in an academic medical center and
served as a hospital trustee and a trustee for other organizations.
She has co-authored books and other publications on Family Centeredpractice in maternity care, newborn intensive care, and pediatrics.
She is currently developing patient- and Family Centeredmaterials
for adult oncology, geriatrics, and additional resources for maternal
and child health. She has produced two award-winning films. Ms.
Johnson is the recipient of the 1992 Lloyd Bentsen Award and the
1990 Humanitarian Award from Pediatric Nursing. During 1997-98,
Ms. Johnson served as an advisor for the planning of Vice President
Gore's Family Re-Union 7, a forum for exploring policy issues related
to strengthening the family. The theme of Family Re-Union 7 was
families and health, with an emphasis on Family Centeredapproaches
to health care.
Ms.
Johnson is currently working with the Association of American Medical
Colleges in planning follow-up activities to Family Re-Union 7 that
involve integrating Family Centeredconcepts and teaching strategies
in medical education.
