John R. Vile
Dr. John R.
Vile received a B.A. degree from the College of William and Mary
(1973) and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (1977). He
taught for twelve years at McNeese State University where he served
for eight years as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences. He
has been a Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science
at Middle Tennessee State University since 1989.
Dr. Vile has
written and edited ten books and one CD-ROM, most on the U.S. Constitution
and related issues. Titles include A COMPANION TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION
AND ITS AMENDMENTS and AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS,
PROPOSED AMENDMENTS, AND AMENDING ISSUES (a book that received a
number of awards). His next book scheduled for publication is a
two-volume work entitled GREAT AMERICAN LAWYERS: AN ENCYCLOPEDIA.
Dr. Vile also serves as one of the coaches for MTSU's nationally-ranked
mock trial teams. He has served as past president of the MTSU chapter
of Phi Kappa Phi and of the Chairs Council and is now president
of the MTSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
He has twice received the MTSU Foundation Award for Outstanding
Research.
