Why the emphasis on Christianity?

There are plenty of web pages that focus on apologetics, so here we will examine the importance of Christianity to athletes, especially collegiate athletes.

On the field and off the field, athletes are seen as role models. Children look up to them, their peers endow them with popularity, and fans envy their abilities. This provides them with opportunities non-athletes rarely have, but it also brings responsibilities.

We encourage athletes to become involved in local churches, but we also recognize that practice and games can be very demanding. Also, athletes are often more comfortable discussing personal issues with other athletes. Only another athlete can fully understand the challenges of being a reflection of Christ to ones teammates.

Since we strive to reach non-Christian athletes as well as help Christian athletes grow, sports based messages can communicate more effectively. By meeting athletes where they are in their spiritual journey with an appropriate message, we attempt to move them toward commitment to Christ and spiritual growth.

FCA is open to anyone who desires to participate, but we believe that to effectively reach athletes and coaches, the commonality of athletics must remain obvious.
