Autumn 2003

At the last meeting, we discussed major events for the next semester. They are as follows:

• January 28-29 Stan Friedman will lead a discussion on UFO's. We are hoping to make this event a debate.It will be co-sponsored with the Ideas & Issues Committee of Student Programming.
• Massimo Pigliucci will speak in late February on the topic of evolution.
• February 12th is Darwin day and to celebrate this day, the meeting around this day will be gift swapping.
• An Americans United speaker will come sometime after Spring Break in early April.

Also we discussed dividing out delegations to people so that these events can occur in a smooth manner. The delegations are as following:

• Publicity (radio stations, newspapers, TV stations, etc.) -- we will probably need SEVERAL people to work on this
• Reception (dinner)
• Room (reserving the rooms for the speakers...Tennessee room in the JUB for January 28th-29th)

If you haven't paid your dues, then please do so. See either Jessica or Nick. If you haven't join the national Campus Freethought Alliance, then please do so by going to http://www.campusfreethought.org and join. It's free. For the next meeting (December 03) we will watch and discuss a movie about math, Pi. It will be a nice break from the rush of the end of the semester.

Next week, CFA is heading to a haunted house. The date is set for October 29th at 7pm. We will meet in the center of Peck Hall (where the small tree is planted) and then head to the haunted house from there. For the next meeting (November 04th), we will have a mathematician speak. More details about the mathemetician will be posted soon.

Here is information concerning our next meetings and gathering:
01. There will be a poker night at Langston's house (714 Maple Street). For those needing transportation or directions, there will be a group of us meeting in the parking lof of the KUC at 6pm. If you need directions, you can also email us at (freethnk@mtsu.edu). The event starts at 6:30pm and will include discussion and refreshments.
02. The meeting that takes place on Wednesday, October 22 will be an informal/ games night. It will take place in the Peck Hall room 200 at 6:30pm.
03. For the following meeting (Wednesday, November 05th), a mathematician will speak. More details about the speaker will be posted soon.

At tonight's meeting, Jessica Causey and Nick Novak were voted as co-treasurers to help out Stephanie. At our next meeting, Trevor Johnson will be discussing music and the exploration of sound. This is set for October 08th at 6:30 in Peck Hall room 200.

In the last meeting, Dr. Langstan spoke about subliminal messages, mainly reverse speech. Future discussion topics include exisstentialism, evolution, origin of thought, and mathematical thought. There will be a page devoted to discussion topics that are of interest to people. At our next meeting, the discussion will focus on psychic readings. The date will be September 24th at 6:30pm in Peck Hall in room 200.

The officer's page has been updated as well as slightly altered to make it easily viewable. At the last meeting, someone brought up the idea of having a media recommendation list where people can submit to it. That is now up. So far, there are four recommendations. Email the web person (tsg2a@mtsu.edu) if you have any suggestions. The next meeting will be this Wednesday evening (september 10) at 6:30pm in Peck Hall room 200. The topic will be Subliminal Perception.

Here are the updated news and information for today:
01. Our new treasurer is now Stephanie Austin.
02. On Monday, August 25th (today), we're going to have a massive flyering campaign from 6pm-9pm-ish. We'll meet at Peck Hall at 6pm and work out across campus from there. Any able bodies are welcomed!!
03. On Wednesday, August 27th, we have a table reserved from 10-2pm on the KUC Knoll. Feel free to stop by and say hey!
04. Additionally, on Wednesday, we're going to have our first meeting of the semester. This will be introduction meeting. It'll start at 6:30pm in Peck Hall 200.
05. On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, we're having a cookout at Will Langston's house (714 Maple St.). Email freethnk@mtsu.edu if you need a ride or directions. This is fast becoming an annual tradition and we always have a lot of fun.
