March 27,2002 We are currently protesting the Rutherford County Commission's intolerance in posting the 10 commandments in the county courthouse. The commissioners are aware that posting the 10 commandments is a violation of the establishment clause of the first amendment to the US constitution. They are currently working on a way to go around the law and post the commandments anyway. Fighting to do this will cost a minimum of $25,000, an amount the commission is willing to spend, in spite of the current budget situation in Tennessee. The commission also knows (from speakers at a public forum) that their actions are causing a great deal of pain to members of the community. In spite of their professed Christianity, they are ignoring the pain caused by their intolerance. They are also willing to denigrate the commandments themselves by calling them nothing more than a historical document with no religious significance. The Campus Freethought Alliance at MTSU believes that the 10 commandments belong in churches, homes, and the hearts of people who believe them. The commandments do not belong in public buildings. The move to post the commandments has already begun to divide the community and take up valuable commission time. Join the Campus Freethought Alliance at MTSU in protesting the Rutherford County Commission's decision.

The Campus Freethought Alliance at MTSU will be hosting information tables on Tuesday, April 2 and Wednesday, April 3, outside the KUC on the MTSU campus. We'll be there from 9:00 - 3:30. Stop by to learn more, sign a petition, and join the organization.
