MA students are encouraged to draw from existing faculty projects for their thesis research. Faculty projects and/or data sets include the following: Dr. Richard Pace (anthropologist): 1. television acculturation and media ethnography data 2. ESL Enterprise Project which entails data on ESL teachers opinions/views as well as general assessment of ESL programs in three TN counties 3. data from an ethnographic field school in the Amazon Dr. Angela Mertig (sociologist): 1. numerous survey datasets on attitudes toward natural resources, wildlife, and the environment (primarily from Michigan) Dr. Brandon Wallace (sociologist): 1. data from National Health Corp. and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services which examines quality of care in nursing homes and need for hospice services Dr. Ron Aday (sociologist/gerontologist): Following projects deal with women and aging as well as general issues of aging 1. national sub-sample of women who live alone – social network/support indicators, depression scale, healthy behavior practices 2. California sample of same data of over 300 men and women 3. state sample of seniors (social support measures, healthy behavior outcomes, self-report health issues, # of illnesses, medications, etc.) 4. data on evaluation or assessing impact of Nurse on Duty at local senior center 5. data comparing student attitudes toward geriatric/juvenile systems – over 200 students, variety of sub-scales Dr. Kevin Breault (sociologist): 1. data on suicide, homicide victimization, violent crime offenders, property crime offenders, divorce, poverty and religious membership and pluralism Dr. Jackie Eller (sociologist): 1. data from large campus climate survey 2. 30+ extensive birth narratives 3. 35+ date rape narratives
