October 2009
The MTSU Horse Judging Team were champions at the All American Quarter Horse Congress Collegiate Judging Contest in Columbus, Ohio. MTSU won all of the divisions for a clean sweep! The team placed first in conformation (halter) judging, first in performance judging, and first in oral reasons. The students also won individual awards. The MTSU Horse Judging Team is coached by Dr. Dave Whitaker.
August 2009
MTSU Equestrian Team member Korry Bailey, Interdisciplinary Studies major, won the world championship in the Youth Cow Horse Competition riding her horse Sparking Champ. The competition was held in Oklahoma City in August 2009. Korry beat all the cowboys from Texas and Oklahoma. The working cow horse is a fast and exciting class to watch that combines both a reining pattern and cow handling work.
July 2009
Dr. Rhonda Hoffman gave an invited keynote presentation titled, Carbohydrate Metabolism and Metabolic Disorders in Horses, at the Sociedade Brasileira de Zootecnia (Brazilian Society of Animal Science) in Maringa, on July 16, 2009. This annual meeting is the most important Animal Science forum in Brazil, with approximately 2,000 attendants.
April 2009
For the third time in the last six years, the MTSU Horse Science Program hosted the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's national championship at The Miller Coliseum in April 2009. Four hundred and fifty of the best collegiate riders in the country competed in individual and team events in Western and English riding. Coach Anne Brzezicki and her Equestrian Team were great hosts. Our riders did very well: Amy Snoderly, National Champion Alumni Reining; Whitney Herron, Reserve National Champion Alumni Reigning; Jaclyn Craddock, Reserve National Champion Alumni Flat; Megan Hephner, 3rd Advanced Horsemanship; and Korry Bailey, 7th Opening Reining.
The MTSU Horse Judging Team secured top honors at the American Paint Horse Association Spring 2009 Sweepstakes Judging contest in Texas. Competing in a field of 21 senior teams, the team placed first in conformation judging, second in performance judging, and first in oral reasons which gained them the overall top spot. The students also won individual awards. The MTSU team was coached by Dr. Dave Whitaker.
