| There
are a number of employment opportunities available for students
in the Department of Housing and Residential Life. These positions
offer flexible hours, convenient on-campus work locations and the
opportunity to be part of the Housing and Residential Life team.
Employment opportunities include positions as resident assistants,
desk assistants, office assistants, computer lab assistants, and
student maintenance workers. If you are interested in any of the
positions, applications are available in the Housing and Residential
Life office located in Keathley University Center, Room 303.
Positions
include:
Resident Directors (RDs) at Middle
Tennessee State University are an essential component of the Housing
and Residential Life Program. RDs are MTSU students (preferably
graduate students) that are selected on the basis of the following
criteria : (1) previous residence hall experience (2) academic achievement
(3) leadership skills (4) interpersonal effectiveness and (5) the
ability to serve as a positive role model for residential students.
Resident Assistants are
selected on the basis of leadership experience, residence in a hall,
scholarship, and the desire to help others. Resident assistants
are paid a stipend and receive a private room at the rate of a regular
room. Requirements: 24 or more completed credit hours; a 2.5 minimum
GPA; positive conduct review. Resident Assistants must be students
at MTSU.
Desk
Assistants receive and report maintenance requests, oversee
resident visitation, check out equipment and supplies, receive deliveries,
and supply students, parents and others with information about the
campus and residence halls. Desk assistants must be students at
MTSU.
Office
Assistants assist Housing and Residential Life staff with
general office duties including word processing, greeting visitors,
communications with other campus departments and clerical duties.
Office assistants must be students at MTSU.
Computer
Lab Assistants work in the residence hall computer labs.
The lab assistants help residents with the operation of the computers
and assist in the maintenance of the computer labs. Students with
computer skills are encouraged to apply for these positions. Computer
lab assistants must be MTSU students.
Residential
Computer Consultants assist with networking residents'
computers to the campus network. Connections to the campus network
are currently available in Scarlett Commons and approximately one
third of the residence halls on campus. Students with basic networking
skills are encouraged to apply for these positions. Residential
Computer Consultants must be MTSU students.
Student
Maintenance Workers assist with the maintenance and repair
of the residence halls. Students who have skills in plumbing, electrical
work and general maintenance are encouraged to apply for these positions.
Those who are not experienced in these skills but are willing to
learn are also encouraged to apply. Student maintenance workers
must be students at MTSU.
