Developmental Pathways and Technology: The Foundation of Enhanced Intellectual

Abstract

The combination of technology applications and an understanding of developmental pathways theory enhances intellectual growth for pre-service teachers. Utilizing the theories developed by Dr. James Comer and integrating them with state of the art technological applications, the presenters will describe one model of pre-service education that has been remarkably effective in bridging the gap between synchronous and asynchronous instruction.

Description

This presentation will provide pre-service teachers and teacher training faculty members with insights into the developmental pathways identified by Dr. James Comer. Research results will be provided showing how the integration of developmental pathway theory and state of the art technological applications has resulted in enhanced intellectual growth for pre-service teachers. Innovative teaching strategies will be modeled. The goals of this presentation include: providing a perspective promoting student growth in intellectual functioning; empowering urban and rural teachers to be visionary agents of positive change; and acquainting urban and rural teachers with innovative strategies based on current educational research. The presentation will show how that the integration of developmental pathway theory with the use of technological applications has been productive for pre-service teachers. The use of the ERes system for facilitating instruction will be highlighted. The ERes system allows faculty members to bridge the gap between synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Participants will be provided with an overview of the technology applications and developmental pathways theory. This integration has been developed by Drury University faculty members and is currently providing pre-service teachers with the opportunity to explore both technology and developmental pathways theory in order to promote intellectual development. This presentation will be of particular benefit for faculty members who are active in preparing future teachers and for others who are interested in utilizing an electronic reserve component to enhance their teaching methods.
