Using PowerPoint to Create a Stand-Alone Instructional Module for the Web

By: Debbie Hartzell
Track 2 - Technology Tools for Use in the Classroom
Interest: General :: Workshop :: Level: Advanced

Abstract

Use PowerPoint to create an innovative stand-alone instructional module to supplement your teaching and enhance student learning. Learn how to energize your teaching with images, clipart, and interactivity. During the hands-on workshop, you will learn how to customize clipart and buttons, and add interactivity with hyperlinks. The instructor will demonstrate how to create a template, duplicate slides, and then insert template into new presentation. Participants will receive a PowerPoint demo disk (on floppy), handouts, and tip sheets.

Description

As educators, we are faced with incorporating technology into our teaching. How do you use technology to empower your teaching? PowerPoint is an easy-to-use technology tool because its "all in one package" features allow the educator to customize clipart and images, add interactive hyper-linked buttons or images and convert to html. Many Universities purchase the Microsoft Office suite that contains PowerPoint. By using the many built in features of PowerPoint and MS Paint, an educator can easily and inexpensively create a web-based instructional module for her/his class. Using only the features of PowerPoint, and MS Paint, the participants will:

  • Customize clipart and buttons
  • Convert clipart and buttons (vector graphics) to flat images (raster) using MS Paint
  • Add interactivity to images using hyperlinks

To further develop the module, the instructor will demonstrate how to:

  • Create a template
  • Duplicate slides
  • Insert template into new presentation
