Using Dreamweaver to Create Interactive Instruction on the Web
AbstractIn this workshop, participants will learn how to use Dreamweaver to create interactive instruction for the Web. We will use Dreamweaver Behaviors to create several different types of interactive exercises. No prior experience with Dreamweaver is required for this workshop. DescriptionIn this workshop, participants will be led to create several different types of interactives devices using Dreamweaver behaviors. One of the keys to effective Web-based or Web-supported instruction is the ability to allow students to interact with the media and receive immediate feedback. Dreamweaver allows the construction of such activities without the necessity for knowing anything about HTML or JavaScript. The techniques that will be demonstrated include the use of buttons for students to use to make choices. The student will receive immediate feedback based upon their selections. A second technique will the use of new windows that can gbe used for several purposes. Participants will actually create the new windows and populate them with variouis types of material such as reminders, and quizzes that are graded immediately. We will use various Commands that are included in Dreamweaver such as the JavaScript commnads OnLoad, OnUnload, and OnClick. Using Dreamweaver means that the designer need not understand any JavaScript in this point and click environment. Finally, time permitting, we will take a look at using layers to create quizzes that are self-grading. I have a 30 day trial copy of Dreamweaver that can be installed on as many machines as necessary. I will provide handouts and a CD that contains all of the materials that will be used in this workshop.
