Macromedia Flash: What You Need To Know To Get Started

By: Russell Newman
Track 2 - Technology Tools for Use in the Classroom
Interest: General :: Workshop :: Level: Beginner

Abstract

Macromedia Flash provides a way to incorporate complex motion graphics--with relatively small file sizes--into a web site. But the Flash interface can be confusing, and the learning curve steep. This workshop will cover the basics of working with Flash's vector graphics and its interface, drawing tools, editing palettes, and ActionScript--the language that gives Flash its interactivity.

Description

Macromedia Flash provides a way to incorporate complex motion graphics--with relatively small file sizes--into a web site. But the Flash interface can be confusing, and the learning curve steep. This workshop will cover the basics of working with Flash's vector graphics and its interface, drawing tools, editing palettes, and ActionScript--the language that gives Flash its interactivity.

Macromedia states that more than 90% of browsers in use now include the Flash Player plug-in. As Flash's acceptance grows, it becomes a viable solution for creating complex motion graphics to be delivered via the web.

But the Flash interface can be confusing, and the learning curve steep.

For many people, it may be easier to learn the basics of Flash by "playing" with it for many hours before putting their ideas into practice. This workshop will get the basics out of the way, allowing Flash users to move on to their ideas.
