Making Your Blackboard Courses Talk!

By: Tim M. Burcham
Track 2 - Innovation and Future Implementation in Instructional Technology
Interest: Faculty :: Lecture/Presentation :: Level: Intermediate

Abstract

The use of Blackboard and WebCT have greatly enhanced the ability of instructors to deliver educational content to students. The use of slides and other graphical software has improved the ability to deliver quality content to users. However, slides and other static web-based educational media, sometimes fails to capture the knowledgebase of the instructor, e.g., the verbal commentary associated with classroom lectures. This presentation will show you have to deliver good quality audio/video lectures to your online students using relatively inexpensive A/V software and your standard Blackboard interface.

Description

Dr. Burcham will demonstrate how to use Camtasia, Educast, and other relatively inexpensive A/V software to deliver audio-enhanced PowerPoint lectures to online students. Dr. Burcham is the coordinator of the Master of Science in Agricultural Operations Management (MSAOM) program at the University of Tennessee at Martin. This program was developed to provide place-bound professional in agriculture with an opportunity to earn a graduate education. Thus, MSAOM course are offered via the Internet. This lecture will show instructors how they can enhance their online PowerPoint slides by including the instructor’s verbal lecture. These audio-enhanced lectures can be viewed and heard using standard “free” players, e.g., Windows Media Player and RealPlayer.
