Love It or Hate It: Harnessing the Power of Adobe Acrobat

By: Steve Holt
Track 1 - Effective Technology Based Learning Environments
Interest: General :: Lecture/Presentation :: Level: All

Abstract

Using Adobe Acrobat can either be like opening the door of your imagination, or the beginning of a bad day. This session will focus on what is possible with Adobe Acrobat 5, little gems you may not even know about, and examples of how Acrobat is being used.

Description

This session will first give an overview of the Acrobat program and PDF files. The discussion will then turn to the various features of the Acrobat program. Some of the features that will be covered in the session will be:

  • The many different ways to get information into the Acrobat program. For example: using a scanner, using ‘Save-As’ from other applications, using Acrobat utilities such as the Distiller to create PDFs from other applications, and so on.
  • How to extract text and images from PDF files so that you don’t have to ‘recreate’ the content.
  • The various interactivity features of Acrobat… notes, buttons, links, bookmarks, thumbnails, and so forth.
  • Using audio and video clips inside your Acrobat files to add rich content
  • Taking advantage of the built-in security functions to password protect your PDF files and protect your copyrighted material from being shared and printed.
  • The different ways to use Acrobat to create interactive forms that gather information on your website.

Throughout the session, real examples of all these features will be demonstrated. There will be a question and answer period at the end of the session.
