When HTML Isn't Enough - Juggling Multimedia Options for the Web

Abstract

Lost navigating through the vast amount of multimedia options? Understanding that every project requires a unique solution is the first step in finding your way through. We will take an in depth look at products such as Flash, QuickTime, Real Media, and others to discuss when implementing these products will give you the greatest benefit. Explore with us examples that enrich the online learning experience.

Description

This presentation is designed to give a practical overview of implementing multimedia projects for the web. Solutions for the presentation of content in this medium can become complex, with a plethora of decisions to be navigated when embarking on your project. Is the ultimate goal to minimize file size? Achieve the best quality video? Is premium sound quality paramount? This lecture will focus on several products, including Macromedia Flash, Cleaner, QuickTime, Real Media, Adobe After Effects and others, in order to provide a clear understanding of their uses, strengths and limitations in achieving the most streamlined web solution. Topics covered will include:

  • Determining your target audience
  • Accessibility issues
  • Bandwidth concerns
  • Platform/hardware issues
  • Plug-ins, players and the people that use them

Examples and case studies will be presented throughout the presentation that were created with the products discussed.
