Creating Reusable Learning Objects with Power Point 2003: A Visual Learning Journey
AbstractThe lecture/ presentation will show a practical method of using Power Point 2003 to build reusable learning objects (RLO) for use in the classroom and on the WEB. Examples from a variety of academic fields and creative design schemes, including new features from Power Point 2003, will be explored. DescriptionReusable learning objects (RLO), small modules of instruction that can be combined with other modules in order to complete an educational objective will be presented. Techniques for creating RLOs will be discussed along with exploring visual graphic design elements and techniques using PowerPoint 2003. The development of an RLO consists of a Reusable Info Objects (RIO) that are defined as specific concepts developed once, reused multiple times and translated into a variety of media applications. The components for creating an RLO such as developing clear objectives, concept presentation, learner activity, learner application, assessment and resources for expanded learning will be demonstrated. Compositional terms such as use of background and letter coloration, location and size of graphics, and visual weight will be defined. Practical application of design elements and principles to create effective graphic layout will be demonstrated. A case study used in instructing interior design students will be presented. The learning topic is human orientation and wayfinding for use in the interior design of public spaces.
