Abstract

Using STELLA software, Dr. Clark will demonstrate the unique ability of this software to integrate "systems thinking" into the classroom. Emphasizing time regression modeling, STELLA is an icon based, non-abstract language that aids in structuring application problems in a way that students can easily visualize, and with a simplicity that intrigues instructors of many computational disciplines.

Description

Introduction to Systems Thinking (15 minutes) Presenter will discuss the background of Systems Thinking and the current culture of systems thinking in the academe and business worlds, using a PowerPoint/Flash MX presentation on a laptop computer coupled with an LCD data projector; Demonstration of STELLA (20 minutes) Presenter will demonstrate a typical STELLA model on a computer loaded with STELLA software connected to an LCD data projector; Hands-on STELLA modeling (45 minutes) Presenters will assist participants in working through typical STELLA models using a computer lab loaded with STELLA software and a handout of STELLA materials; Summary (10 minutes) Presenters will summarize the STELLA and systems thinking experience, answering any questions from participants in a Q&A session.
