Track 3 - Supporting the Transformative Environment
Session Type - Lecture/Presentation | |
Abstract
In Malcolm Gladwell's National Bestseller, The Tipping Point: How Little
Things Can Make a Big Difference, he considers the "magic moment when an
idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips and spreads like
wildfire." This presentation will outline the primary principles Gladwell
describes in the book and consider how these might apply to an
organization's technology-related epidemics.
Description The proposed program format follows:
Opener/Warmup
The presentation will begin with an engaging, activity based opener that
sets an informal tone for the presentation and orients the group to the
topic at hand.
Book Summary
PowerPoint will be used to briefly outline and summarize the main points of
the book.
Case Studies
Applying the book's principles, a series of higher education, instructional
technology-oriented scenarios will be discussed by the group. Depending on
the number of participants, the presenter may elect to divide the group into
teams to discuss scenarios, and then report back to the group.
Closer
Approximately 5-7 minutes before the scheduled end of the presentation, an
intentional and well-defined close will be executed. The closing activity
will reiterate what has been learned in the session and will leave the
participants with tools for the practical application of Gladwell's Tipping
Point principles.
