Track 2 - Promoting Transformation in the Learning Environment
Session Type - Lecture/Presentation | |
AbstractNone specified.
DescriptionOne factor that determines the level and depth of learner engagement is
constructing and presenting appropriate learning objectives. For
experiential web based learning, learning objectives should incorporate
cognitive and affective domain, types of evaluation, and be grounded in the
developmental stages of the learner - to form an experiential learning
course or module, whether presented in an online environment, or a classroom
environment. This discussion will focus on the development of experiential
learning objectives.
For many in the instructional design field, learning objectives appear to be
somewhat flat and one-dimensional. This may be a result of a perception
problem - that of not integrating the objectives from the cognitive and
affective domain with the appropriate evaluation type under the context of
the type of knowledge to be acquired by the learner while addressing the
issues of experiential learning.
Good web-based learning is learning that actively engages or involves the learner. One area that many of the current instructional design models do not treat with much depth or breadth is that of creating experiential online learning. Good learning, in this case web-based, is not only learning-centered, but learner centered and outcome based. And, the learning can be learning-centered, learner-centered and outcome based if the structure of the learning objectives encourages or fosters this both within the learner and throughout the context of online learning.
Upon identifying and understanding the relationship, participants will be
able to craft well-formed objectives that easily lend themselves to an
experiential learning unit (whether online or offline). Participants will
also be able to identify the components of the individual objectives that
lend themselves to designing, developing, and delivering an experiential
on-line course or module.
