Simple Solutions for Universal Web-based Information Delivery or How to make your information work for everyone!

Abstract

The major challenge for delivering effective web-based information is to put yourself in the shoes of your audience and to design your content beyond your own user environment. To increase their perspective, attendees will be acquainted with user statistics and the basic concepts of Universal Design, Accessibility and Usability and easy ways to achieve all.

We live in an on-going paradigm shift toward a knowledge-intensive information society necessitating radical changes and reconsideration with the ways we transmit, receive and process information and work with each other. The need for Universal Design stems from the growing impact of the fusion of the emerging technologies, and from the different dimensions of diversity, which are intrinsic to the information society. Universal Design is an inclusive and proactive approach seeking to accommodate diversity in the users and usage context of interactive services and products. This workshop will focus on the seven basic principles of Universal Design and how those principles coincide with government accessibility requirements for information delivery and usability issues which provide to attract, serve and retain customers (future students, parents, staff and faculty). Working examples and additional materials will be provided.
