Proposal #16

Title: Special Delivery! Finding the Delivery Format that Meets Your Needs

Name: Emily S. Reyes

Audience Level: This presentation will not be above the beginning level, however all levels may find courseware that will work at their college or university.

Audience: : The primary audience is expected to be distance learning coordinators, faculty, and administrators looking to increase their distance learning offerings.

Length: One Hour

Abstract:
As technology allows us to offer a wider variety of distance learning formats, distance learning programs are sure to benefit. Coast Learning Systems, a division of Coastline Community College, combines video content, web activities, and print materials to create highly effective and integrated distance learning courses. We will discuss the academic process that Coast Learning Systems follows in the production of these award winning courses as well as how these courses can be a part of the curriculum at your college.

Description:
Coast Learning Systems, a leader in distance education for nearly thirty years and a division of Coastline Community College, has recently developed several types of new courseware. Our latest courses include our standard telecourse (for which we have won many prestigious awards including 13 Emmys), many new online courses, as well as an interactive CD-ROM course.

I would like to go through the rigid instructional design process that Coastline Community College and Coast Learning Systems use in developing their distance learning systems. With each course, there is a step-by-step process that involves an academic advisory team, production team, publications support, publisher partner, and finally both national and international marketing. Each department reviews and provides their suggestions and approval along the way for successful distribution.

This presentation will allow participants to learn more about the development, facilitation, and assessment of engaging courses. We will discuss the benefits of each delivery option and ways to work around potential barriers on individual campuses. Attendees will determine if one or more delivery formats are appropriate for their respective campuses.

All participants will be given a session outline, contact information, as well as website information for course previews. Textbooks, workbooks, and interactive CD-ROMs will be available for preview upon request.
