Title of Session: Making Your Classrooms Click: Using Student Response
Systems in Today’s Classrooms

Abstract:

Interest has increased in recent years regarding the use of student response systems (also called “clickers”) in the classroom to help create a more dynamic learning environment. This workshop will explore how to use clickers and the possibilities that these very simple devices can create. Two different systems will be shown and audience participation will not only be encouraged but expected (everyone will have to “click” in their vote).

Description:

Over the summer of 2006, a committee was formed to test a number of student response systems with the hopes of establishing a standard for Middle Tennessee State University. Of the many varieties of “clickers” available, we tested Turning Technologies (TurningPoint), eInstruction, iClicker and HITT. Each system was evaluated on a number of criteria including what each might bring to the classroom. This workshop will show how to use the systems TurningPoint and iClicker, their strengths and weaknesses, and the various options each one has (reports, tests, comparing data, etc.). Additionally, the workshop will cover possible scenarios for using clickers, potential problems that might happen and some real success stories.
