Type of Session: Workshop

Track: Track 3: Pedagogy and Technology Integration

Abstract: Technology can be an effective tool to support different teaching and learning styles. This workshop will introduce ways that teachers can use technology to support teaching techniques and enhance instructional effectiveness. By the end of the workshop, participants will have created a teaching enhancement plan to identify their preferred teaching style, identify one or more teaching strategies to try and determine one or more instructional technology applications to support teaching and learning.

Description: During this workshop, participants will demonstrate an awareness of different teaching and learning styles, discuss effective teaching strategies, and determine how instructional technologies can support instructional effectiveness.

Teaching is influenced by four interacting variables: the learner, the teacher, the situation and the content. Research on teaching style indicates that what teachers do in the classroom makes a difference in how their students learn. Therefore, knowledge of teaching style can make a difference in how teachers organize their classes, how they deal with learners and how well their students learn.

This workshop will introduce participants to their preferred teaching style and the different learning styles of students using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Participants will have opportunities to explore teaching and learning preferences and the teaching techniques that target different styles.
