This study assesses instructional technology from the student's perspective as to its value as an effective learning tool. Description: In spring 1998, a study was conducted with MTSU faculty on their perceptions about technology in the classroom, their usage of various types of technology, the effects of various technologies on good teaching practices, and thier projected use of instructional technology in the near future.
In the second phase of our research, a study will be conducted in spring 1999 with MTSU students on their perceptions about technology in the classroom, the value of various types of technology in their learning and research experiences, and the effects the different types of technologies on their relationship with the instructor and other students, the outcome of the course, and their understanding of the course material.
Results of both studies will be shared with participants with the emphasis on the student study. The test instrument, survey results, and a paper detailing the faculty study are currently available at http://www.mtsu.edu/~itsurvey. Information from the student study will be posted at the same site as it becomes available.
