Name: Lisa Matlock, Instructor
Aud_Level: All Length: 60 minutes Description: The presentation will focus on how to use wireless technology in delivering networked information to an audience without being tethered to a network wall outlet. Three or more real life examples will be presented, one involving student services interaction with a networked application in an outdoor campus setting. Another describes use of wireless LAN to deliver ad hoc internet access to outlying classroom settings and a third describes the use of wireless LANs in student recruiting and registration at a public setting. The use of wireless LAN promotes expanded use of networked information at non-traditional locations. Access to both LAN and WAN information is typically not available in settings such as hallways, auditioriums, atriums, gymnasiums and a host of other locations including out of doors areas. Because networks are typically not available in these type locations many instructional and information distribution opportunities are lost diluted in impact. With the use of wireless LAN access information presenters including student leaders, administrators and faculty become unencumbered in their choice of material and methods of presenting. Additionaly, wireless LAN use can expedites access to networks because it reduces the need for technical know how in that a fully functional and working on-line multi-media cart equipped with an Uninterruptable Power Supply can be wheeled right out of a multi-media area down the hall into a classroom and used without any knowledge of network access. The presenters will use overhead projection and lecture and make use of a portable equipped with a wireless LAN device for audience participation. Abstract: The presentation will describe and make use of hands-on examples of how wireless LAN technology can provide expanded access to information from non-wired classrooms, auditoriums, labs and outdoor locations. The use of wireless LAN technology is the only tool which can provide access to the networked information on an adhoc basis to any location on your campus. Use of wireless technology will greatly enhance the ability of both teching and adminstrative staff to deliver networked content to their intended audience.
