Title: Put Math Symbols on the Web using Word 97/WordPerfect 8

Name: Katherine Creery

Type of session: Lecture/Presentation

Preferred track: Track 3: Pedagogy and Technology Integration

Abstract: This presentation will demonstrate the use of Word 97/WordPerfect 8 to get mathematics symbols onto the web. Participants will learn to use the Equation Editor and web pages to make and save documents in HTML. You will also learn how to send these to your www file on your server.

Description: Faculty web pages are growing in popularity, it is important to be able to put homework assignments, worksheets, test reviews, and test solutions onto your homepage and/or the Web.

However, it is very difficult to get mathematics symbols onto these
pages. After a year's search, the only way found to get mathematics
symbols onto the web was to buy and learn a special mathematical
program.

This presentation will demonstrate an easy way using Microsoft Word 97
or Corel WordPerfect 8 to get the mathematics symbols onto the Web.
(The directions in Microsoft Word 97 leave out two critical steps. It
took this presenter 6 weeks of working with Microsoft Technical Support
to determine this. These steps also work for Corel Word Perfect.) The
participants attending this demonstration will learn:

Participants will also learn how to take existing files made with older
versions of Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect using the Equation
Editor and convert them into a web page HTML file using Microsoft Word
97 or Corel WordPerfect 8.
