COURSE GOALS:

The course is designed to improve knowledge about technology and the use of technology in instructional techniques for classroom teachers.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Participants will be able to prepare and present lessons for classroom instruction using technology.

Participants will be able to prepare a web page and successfully post instructional materials and lessons on the page.

Participants will present lessons and web pages to other participants in the class.

Participants will identify web sites that will complement instruction.

Course Requirements

Participants will prepare a web page on MTSU’s  server or their home or school server.  On this web page, there will be 2 lessons that your students could do online without your assistance (in or out of the classroom).  (Those of you teaching children who are not able to complete assignments independently, may assume parents or other folks will assist in lesson completion.)  Each lesson should be at least 2 days long for separate lessons or 4-5 days for a unit of instruction.  Each should include all instructions, assignment sheets, site addresses, presentations, or whatever is needed to complete the lesson.  Each lesson will be placed on your home page.  Specifically each lesson should include:

  1. A lesson plan indicating what you want students to learn – complete with learning objectives tied to state standards
  2. An instruction sheet for students to follow that includes the objectives of the lesson and all steps that must be done to complete the lesson
  3. Links to presentations, sites or other information students must use to complete the lesson.
  4. At least 2 PowerPoint presentations with 8-12 slides each
  5. Assessment tools and assignments should be linked to your lessons.
  6. A rubric to allow students to evaluate progress or completion of their work
  7. Pages should include graphics and clip art where appropriate.

Those folks who are not in a teaching situation or who feel the online lessons are not applicable to their situation may consider preparing informational materials that may be used in your school or by parents.  The same format will follow for those choosing this path.

Your webpage should include:

  1. Links to all assignments in this class and other things you want to put on your page
  2. A mailto: link for your email
  3. Graphics and other things you want to use to embellish your page
  4. Contact information for you (as you would use in school)

In addition to the webpage and lessons, each participant will prepare an annotated bibliography of 10-15 sites that may be used to complement their subject or grade level area or that may be used as a personal teaching resource.  This will also be linked on your webpage.

You should create a “prospectus” for what you intend to do by the first of May.  Proposals should be submitted by email to jhausler@mtsu.edu
