Curriculum and Instruction Major (M.Ed)

Specialization:     Licensure Endorsement in Secondary Education

 

 

This specialization is to allow students to pursue licensure requirements in secondary education 

 

while pursuing a Masters degree. This program is designed to replace the undergraduate

 

education minor and enable post-baccalaureate students to meet their Educational requirements.

 

Students may enter this path only with consent of the program advisor. Students teaching on

 

Interim Licenses (A,B and E) and those pursuing initial licensure in secondary education are

 

eligible for this program. Students in this program must meet all requirements in the major area,

 

any undergraduate requirements, and all Education courses to obtain a teaching license. In

 

addition to any academic courses needed, students must meet requirements for admission to the

 

MTSU teacher Education Program and take all parts of the Praxis II (NTE) exams required for

 

licensure.. Students wishing to enter this program must consult the MTSU licensure analyst for

 

an evaluation of their undergraduate work. The program is 33-39 hours depending on student’s

 

status and prior coursework and hours required for the teaching practicum. Completion of this

 

Master’s program does not guarantee licensure but fulfills all Education requirements necessary

Specialization:  Secondary Education Licensure Path

This Specialization is designed as a path for non-licensed degree holding individuals to seek licensure to teach in secondary public schools.

The highlighted courses and SPSE 5260 – Orientation to Teaching for an Alternative License are required to obtain an AlternativeTeacher license.  The other courses would be added to complete a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Range of 3-9 hours depending on Interim License or Student Teaching for those individuals who do not seek a probationary license but want to student teach. There is a Minimum of 3 hours to cover YOED 4000

(Note:  SPSE 5260 substitutes for YOED 5510 in the masters program for those working on an alternative license.)
