The purpose of this interview is to acquaint the candidate
with the duties and responsibilities school administration and to prepare them
for a possible career as an administrator.
To inform the candidate concerning this career move, we require them to
have a conversation with a current administrator. This conversation should be both considered a
learning experience for the candidate and an opportunity for them to learn more
about administration. It also allows the
interviewer an opportunity to evaluate the candidate’s readiness to enter the
MTSU Leadership Program. Discussion during
the interview should center on leadership qualities and preparation, the
candidates’ ideas and questions about leadership, and other topics that will
inform and guide the prospective candidate.
Topics for dialogue during the interview might include but not be
limited to the following:
1. Knowledge of curriculum,
assessment, or instruction
2. Evidence of teaching
expertise
3. Evidence of collaboration or
cooperation with other teachers
4. Interpersonal or
intrapersonal skills
5. Use of student data to plan
instruction
6. Innovative strategies or
approaches used in teaching
7. Leadership experience
8. Professional goals towards
leadership
9. Leadership and teaching
philosophy
At the conclusion of this discussion, the
interviewer is asked to recommend the candidate’s readiness to enter our
program.
