Instructions for Downloading Software

Compressing and Decompressing Files

The first thing you may need is pkzip (about 42KB) and pkunzip (about 29KB) for some of the software below. Pkzip allows you to compress files with the ".zip" extension. Pkunzip allows you to uncompress files with the ".zip" extension. There are lots of different parameters you can add. To find out how to use these programs just type "pkunzip" at a "dos" prompt or "pkzip" to find out how to use pkunzip and pkzip respectively. To unzip a file, go to a dos prompt, making sure that the directory that contains pkzip and pkunzip is in your path (I put them in a directory called "pkware". To set the path, at the dos prompt type "set path=c:\pkware", that'll put it in your path). So, for example, suppose I want to unzip a file called "test.zip", all I need to type at the dos prompt is "pkunzip test.zip c:\temp2" where "c:\temp2" is the desination directory where I want the file unzipped.

You can also just download the shareware program in the Windows95 section below called Winzip95. Winzip is a nice program that automatically zips and unzips files in Windows95

Registrations

Please read the registration instructions with each of the following programs. Some require you to pay for them after an initial trial period. Some are free for educational or non-profit organizations. Again, check the information contained with the programs.

Downloading Instructions

This isn't really an FTP site, but with any web browser, you can still download the software. If you're using a text browser, just hit "d" while on the link to download the file. If you're using a graphical browser such as Netscape (for PC's anyway) there are two ways to download. You can either right click on the link, then click on "save this link as...", or you can hold down the "Shift" key while clicking on the left mouse button. In each case, you will then get a box, pick the directory to which you want to save the file, then click the save button. For any link, don't try to link to it, just download it.

If there's a problem with any of this software, I'm not the one to contact about it. Try the manufacturer/creator of the software. This is primarily intended for local (i.e. MTSU) use to make it easier for local folks to find and download software. If there's something on this page that isn't freeware or shareware please let me know and I'll take care of it immediately.
