The Gorilla (gorilla gorilla): largest and most powerful of the
primates.
- How Big is a Gorilla? The male gorilla can grow
to be about six feet tall, so they aren't as tall as some male humans.
The female gorilla can grow to about five feet tall. So their height
isn't what makes them so powerful. But the male gorilla can weigh up to
600 (six hundred) pounds! That's more than three times what my dad weighs,
and he's over six feet tall. Female gorillas can weigh up to 200 pounds.
- What do Gorillas Eat? Gorillas are herbivores. Mostly they eat fruit, leaves, and
stems that are juicy.
- Where do Gorillas Live? The mountain gorilla is
found only in the Virunga Volcanoes region in eastern Zaire, which is in
the center of Africa. They live in the forests along the northern bank
of the Zaire river. Other gorillas live in central Africa too.
