Annual Meeting on Current Research in Tennessee ArchaeologySince 1989, the Tennessee Archaeological Advisory Council and Tennessee Division of Archaeology have sponsored an annual conference to promote the distribution of information about archaeological research in the state over the past year. The meeting is currently held annually in late January. Plans to establish the meeting were initiated in 1988 with the idea of promoting "communications among the archaeologists working in the state" (Jefferson Chapman, Chair of Tennessee Archaeological Advisory Council, Letter to Colleagues, November 7, 1988). The first meeting was held on January 14, 1989 in Garland Hall at Vanderbilt University. Since that first meeting, the program has seen considerable growth. As evidenced below, the program has grown from about a dozen presentations to a consistent two dozen over the past many years. While the first meetings were very informal, since 1994, the organizers have printed abstracts for the programs. The program is also intended to provide a showcase for the interested public to discover what has been "happening" in Tennessee Archaeology over the past year.
